Collaboration Tools: Which collaboration/project management applications let users give and track credit for their contributions? - Quora
And from this reference to Quora, and with memory of our #Change11 discussion this morning. I describe the following analogic sequence for exploration and theory development.
Area of Life: Making Music.
A: Two people without a score (each however having a capability to follow a common rhythm and able to harmonize with the notes another voices): it’s possible that music can be created in this way.
B. Same as above but a quartet (that knows each other and has some standard ways of pacing (pianist sets tempo, say) and harmonizing).
C. Now take the quartet and have the pianist have the score — it’s new material.
D. Now the quartet with a known song … but with pacing and jazz riffs started by pianist then elaborated by sax, by trumpet by drums in sequence and then back to blend.
E. See above but with say a “standard score” which is played according to sheet music (all have copies) initially and then jazzified (with rotations as above).
F. Orchestral presentation with all having score with parts marked and conductor providing pace, emphasis and cue’s for various sections/soloists to do their “thang”.

Think of translating the situations above as they affect -instead of making music its , say, solving problems or designing and implementing a research sequence and assigning individual and small group roles within it and then carrying out the actual process and finally reporting findings.
Does the analogy making give us insight into the building of knowledge by a widely distributed but well “wired” research group?
